Big Changes and a Little Birthday

Happy-Birthday

Seamly.co is almost four months old!

We’ve launched eight designs, produced hundreds of pieces, and hosted two community votes.

But goodness, sometimes progress seems so slow. Especially these past few weeks, as I’ve been working more off-line, figuring out how to scale production locally,  finalizing patterns on new designs  with Jessica (the Winter Jenny and Cardigan Wrap Dress), finishing up production on leggings, and replenishing the sold-out 5-ways Maxi and Jenny Dress. (Okay, so that doesn’t seem slow at all.)

Things are certainly moving, whether it’s behind-the-scenes or playing out in real-time on Instagram. This is the stage of the business where I know it’s going to work, but have to step back and strategize.

So as we enter our second quarter, I’m changing a few things dramatically.

I’m not going to cut fabric anymore.

(Or do any production sewing.)  It’s easy to convince myself to” just do a little, it won’t take long at all!” and then I find myself cutting at midnight or ripping out seams with furor days later. (Yes. Those things happen.) But I never regret working with professionals (like Jessica of COsewn, my hero). So I’m leaving the production to those with more talent and knowledge than I. Couldn’t be more excited, for you guys (and for my sanity.)

Another big change — we’re launching a referral program!

Wahoo! You’ll hear a lot more about this. You can give $10 in Seamly.co credit to friends — if they shop at our little store, you’ll get $10 in credit, too. We’re excited to meet your friends and give everyone a little “thank you” for sharing.

We’re also launching a sweet affiliate program.

It’ll be out this month. If you blog, or know someone who’d like to share our products on their site and earn a little cash money, just sign up here and we’ll e-mail all the details when it’s ready.

And finally, the team is growing!

We have two apprentices right now — Allison, who is a design student working on a few projects you’ll love, and Lexx, an MBA student who will be helping with operations. I’m excited to for packing parties and brainstorm sessions and fresh eyes on everything Seamly.co

Those are the big changes — as for everything else, we’re just moving forward with as much care and thought as possible.

The Winter Jenny and Cardigan Wrap Dress will likely be out at the end of October or early November, and our leggings launch this week!

With excitement,

Hi! I'm Kristin, the founder / designer at Seamly.co. A few years ago, I became obsessed with sustainable fashion, co-founding {r}evolution apparel and Kickstarting "the Versalette" -- without knowing how to sew industrially or draft a pattern. Now, I'm going back to the basics, and learning how this big fashion machine works...
