The Latest from Shannon | MEET FACTORY45

kris-and-shanA NOTE FROM KRISTIN: Most of you know Shannon, but for those who are new, here’s a little background!

In the summer of 2010, Shannon and I decided to start a business together. Our rough ideas turned into designs, research, and and ultimately, a deep passion for sustainable manufacturing in the fashion industry. Together, we raised over $64,000 in our first Kickstarter campaign, manufactured our first product, and learned oh-so-much about the world of sewn goods. Here’s what Shannon’s working on now!

Hi everyone!

Shannon here, Kristin’s former partner-in-crime from {r}evolution apparel. Like many of you, I’m an avid reader/shopper of, so I’m very grateful to Kristin for helping me spread the word about my latest venture.

On March 31st I launched Factory45,  an online accelerator program for designers and makers who want to create sustainable businesses in the USA. For those of you who followed the {r}evolution apparel story, you know it can be difficult for new entrepreneurs to break into the sustainable fashion world.

Kristin and I spent a year and a half trying to find materials that fit our sustainability guidelines and a sew shop that would work with our minimums. The domestic manufacturing industry can be closed off, especially for newcomers who are trying to get a foot in the door.

I believe in what we did with {r}, I believe in what Kristin is accomplishing with, and I want to help other aspiring designers do the same.

Factory45 is a six-month program, broken up into three two-month modules that covers sourcing and manufacturing; branding and marketing; and going to market with a crowdfunding campaign. The structure uses many of the same steps that Kristin and I took to build our first company.

Applications are open now until April 28, 2014 and I’ll be accepting 10 participants to build sustainable, profitable businesses here in the USA. For those of you who look at Kristin and think, “I want to do that too…” I’d love to have you apply : )

A big thanks to Kristin for giving me airtime here — and for being proof that doing good business is possible.

I’m so excited to see the designers and companies that come out of Factory45! If you know someone who could benefit from this accelerator, feel free to share. You can find Factory45 on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, or just use the share buttons below! – KG
